what are the benfits of feeding beet pulp? do horses need beet pulp?
i have a pony mix who someone suggesting putting her on beet pulp.
she is 29 years young and someone told me it would be good for her to be on it for the firbe.
she holds her weigh fine shes is perfert weight.
she is on vintage senoir from blue seal she gets a cup moring and night and 12% sweet feed she gets a 1/4 sweet feed, and a oz of cortra rx.
do u think she needs beet pulp?
pls give pros and cons on beet pulp.

i`m also concern because the other horses tend to chase her around a bit nothing to bad, just a little chase here and there.
If she’s healthy, happy, and there are no problems, I would not change a thing abouther diet. She’s 29, and that’s a mighty fine age, if it ain’t broke, don’t bother fixing it!
Beet Pulp is often used to put weight on very very thin horses. A lot of rescues use it.
A con is that a lot of horses choke on it, and choke on it so badly you need to have the vet come out and tube them to get the obstruction out. Which, with an older horse doesn’t seem like a wise idea.
We’ve always used bran to increase fiber if a horse needs it. The bran flakes are easy to work with, and horses love it if you mix a few raisins or apple chunks in it, and water it down to make a mash (warm water). We had a 25 yr old on one of the farms I was at, who ate bran every day to keep him regular like an old man! hehe
I would consult with your vet before changing anything about her diet. Older horses are more suseptible to colicing and becoming ill due to diet change.
